In preparation for the move to the Eveleth School at 3 Brook Road, Marblehead, MA, Abbot Public Library will close at 5 pm on Saturday, September 10, 2022. This will be our temporary space during the renovation of our current building.
According to Gary Amberik, Chair of the Library Board of Trustees, “it was important to us to find a suitable space to house the interim library so we could continue to provide the Town of Marblehead with essential library services while we undertake the critical infrastructure updates and improvements at Abbot Public Library. We are grateful to the Marblehead School Committee for allowing us to utilize the Eveleth School.”
Library Director Kimberly Grad notes that the Eveleth School will be familiar to many people in the community. Classrooms will be repurposed for reference and technical support, fiction and nonfiction collections, spaces for teens and children, quiet reading areas and a room for public programs. “We look forward to welcoming the community of Marblehead to this temporary library space,” she adds.
The library will be closed from mid-September through mid-October to allow the staff time to physically relocate materials and furnishings from one building to the other. All virtual services like databases, Libby, and Hoopla will still be available with a library card.
