Marblehead Municipal Light Department and Adjacent Boat Yards Coastal Flooding Resilience Project
March 28 @ 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm
Nasser Brahim, Woods Hole Group Senior Climate Resiliency Specialist, will illustrate the updated Flood Risk Analysis that provides future sea level rise scenarios and the increased risks for the Marblehead Municipal Light Department (MMLD) and adjoining public properties. He will explain immediate actions to protect MMLD’s critical infrastructure and an incremental approach that can guide structural retrofits, seawall designs and non-structural measures.
The Town of Marblehead received a Massachusetts Coastal Zone Management Coastal Resilience Grant focusing on MMLD, which provides the town its electricity. The project’s goal is to develop adaptative measures to address coastal flooding and increase community resilience, while expanding public access and water-related activities at these properties.
The project team continues to seek community input as it investigates what is reasonable flood protection for the area that provides services for commercial and recreational boating, fishing, and a waterfront park. If you have questions, contact Barbara Warren, firstname.lastname@example.org.
